PUBLICATIONS
AMBERIF is a magnificent opportunity to find books that are difficult to access in general circulation. This is a list of this year’s most interesting items: TREND BOOK 2016+ The sixth edition of a book recognised in the design community, by Prof. Sławomir Fijałkowski of the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts. TREND BOOK “systematise[s] the current knowledge about the forecasting of stylistic and product design trends” and aims to “carefully analyse the most important trends which characterise design and which, once interpreted, are a point of reference in the design of unique Baltic amber jewellery collections” (quotation from the author). The observations were made at key trade shows, festivals and exhibitions, along with leading trend-setting events: Milan Design Week, Paris Design Week and Dutch Design Week at Eindhoven.

THE AMBER FAMILY
A designer/artist passes on their passion to everyone. When amber is at play, this “bug” gets very serious and irreversible. This has just come to pass in the family of Jolanta and Andrzej Kupniewski. As a family, you have an entire gallery of Amberif and Ambermart awards. Interestingly, it began with your daughter.
“Before that we also got awards, but it was indeed recently that we’ve received the most prestigious ones. What’s interesting, this treasure chest of awards was opened by our daughter Nina with Dario Dalessandro, who won the 2014 Amberif Design Award with her first controversial piece! Amazing! We’ve got to admit that it irked us a little: we have been working in this business for 20 years and here—voila,” laughs Jolanta Kupniewska.

TWENTY INCLUSIONS IN ONE AMBER NUGGET—AN AMBER LOVER’S DREAM
An inclusion is everyone’s dream but not everyone is lucky enough to chance upon it. And twenty insects in a single amber piece—is like the Holy Grail of the amber world! The owners of NAC Amber Jewellery had such good fortune. “All in all, the piece of amber was inconspicuous,” says Marta Wesołowska. “Sometimes it’s worthwhile to pick off a tiny bit, rather than just cut blind. That’s how it was in this case: we broke off a piece of the crust—and lo and behold, first there were two ants, then we counted as many as fourteen, and the experts reached twenty.”

THE AMBER CELEBRATION CONTINUES!
The AMBERIF Opening Ceremony was graced by many esteemed guests, including His Excellency the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the General Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Gdańsk, the authorities of the Pomorskie Region and the City of Gdańsk. “For centuries amber has been associated with Gdańsk,” emphasised Andrzej Kasprzak, MTG SA President of the Board. “I am glad that we have a share in this as the Gdańsk International Fair Co.
